Larry overcame adversity and the constant threat of losing his childhood home to foreclosure. At the age of 8, he began doing odd jobs to help support and raise his eight brothers and sisters. Larry survived violence perpetuated by an unemployed manically depressed father while he, his mother, and siblings worked to keep the family afloat.
For over 30 years Larry has studied success and happiness. As a trainer and teacher he hones his craft to help you achieve a world of happiness. Larry’s love of people, rock 'n' roll, and all that is good, good, good is evident in all that he does.
Schardt has a master’s degree in Extension Education and Communication and a PhD in Extension Education with a minor in Instructional Systems Design. He is a professor at Penn State and has also taught at Pitt, University of the Virgin Islands, and Dickinson College. Larry also has a scholarship fund at University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to help students further their educational pursuits.
Dr. Schardt has won multiple awards in writing contests for his inspirational stories about overcoming hardships. He also has stories in “Chicken Soup for the Soul: Find Your Happiness” and “Chicken Soup for the Soul:The Power of Gratitude.”
His teaching philosophy is published in the book, “The Penn State Teacher II.” He also wrote and published the textbook for the classes he teaches: “Natural Resources Conservation and Community Sustainability,” at Pitt and Penn State.
He co-wrote “Resource Conservation and Development,” used as a teaching tool for many workshops he’s taught around the country. He has also taught courses on Grant Proposal Writing from Alaska to the Virgin Islands.
Larry is currently co-authoring on a book about successful Writing Retreats to help other people create successful retreats.
